2019 Visions
Alva Public Library Summer Youth Programs January to March - The Alva Public Library recently made a decision to expand the services and programming for the youth of this community. The library now offers a weekly little Explorers Story and Activity Time (preschoolers & parents), a weekly after school program for elementary youth, and a Summer Reading Program. The Library has begun offering small group activities targeting youth and teens. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) based activities are available to be checked out and used in the library. The newest project will start this month, Computer Coding Club for elementary students. The library staff hopes to continue to grow these programs with the support and aid from Bank It and the Alva Community and Financial Institutions. Please help support their program by stopping by any of the banks listed on the back side of this newsletter and begin your Habit of Helping today! Bud Rose Park Renovation Project April to September - This year, Bank It received an application for a project whose scope far exceeds anything that has been selected before. This project is large enough to need the support and dedication of 2 consecutive quarters. The board voted to designate 6 months to this project in hopes that our amazing community will rally behind the Bud Rose Renovation Project. The goal is to improve the quality of life of our Alva residents by creating a safe, fun and healthy place for families to spend time together while enhancing opportunities for physical activity. The goal of this renovation includes sidewalks for running and walking, a Goldbug and Rangers basketball court, a sand volleyball court, picnic tables and a family-friendly fitness court. The City of Alva will incur the cost of all of the projects except for the fitness court. They have raised $40,000 for the fitness court project already and hope that Bank It can help make this plan a reality. The fitness court and corresponding equipment can be purchased separately so no matter how much is raised, it will be used to add pieces to the court. Here are some samples of what our ALVA COMMUNITY Fitness Court could look like, depending on how much support everyone can give this project. Get ready for April, because Bank It has high hopes for this project!! Alva Wesleyan Food Bank October to December - The Alva Wesleyan Food Bank is an organization that Bank It is proud to support each year. This is the only organization that has been selected by Bank It to be an annual CommUNITY Vision for the final quarter of each year. The Food Bank has been operating for 18 years serving over 220 households per month in South Central Kansas and Northwest Oklahoma. Community donations allow the Food Bank to purchase items to fill their boxes. Distribution Day is every Thursday and boxes are assembled Monday through Wednesday of that week. |
